Orangutans are "good to think with" : Race, Colonialism, and Extinction

Helen Tiffin, formerly Professor of English at the Universities of Queensland and Tasmania, a holder of Canada Research Chair in English and Post Colonial Studies at Queen's University, is recognized as one of the leading scholars in the world in the area of postcolonial studies. She is the author of The Empire Writes Back: Theory and Practice in Postcolonial Literatures (1989; with Bill Ashcroft and Gareth Griffiths), regarded as a foundational text in postcolonial theory. Her Postcolonial Ecocriticism: Literature, Animals, Environment (with Graham Huggan) was published in 2009, and Wild Man from Borneo: A Cultural History of the Orangutan (with Robert Cribb and Helen Gilbert) in 2014. The lecture is organized by the America Literature section at the Department of English.
