Feminist discourse in the Hindi-novel "Das Dware ka Pinjra" by Anamika

Meaning: "Where Women Are Honored , Divinity Blossoms There; And Where They Are Dishonored , All Action Remains Unfruitful." This presentation deals with different facets of feminism (Nari vimarsh рдирд╛рд░реА рд╡рд┐рдорд░реНрд╢) in different historical periods. It sheds light on the eventful history of Indian women, from equal status with men in ancient times through the low points of medieval period to the promotion of equal rights by many reformers in pre-independent India. It scrutinizes the roles played by the wom en and the different d iscourses on women's empowerment at different levels and sectors of the society. The presentation is based upon the novel "Dus Dware ka Pinjra" (рджрд╕ рджреНрд╡рд╛рд░реЗ рдХрд╛ рдкреАрдВрдЬрд░рд╛) by Anamika. In this book, author described the situation and struggle of women in 18 thand 19th century. Book based on true story and tells about salvation to liberation of woman. This book discusses famous scholars and characters from the history they worked for woman liberation. The presentation suggests that the status of women has been the central concern of many reform movements before and after independence yet women in independent India are still exposed to various gender unequal practices which dis-empower them and heighten their vulnerability. Why is this despite a strong tradition of reform movement and women's activism in pre and post independent India? The paper will offer suggestions on these issues.
