Arrival Visas: Those with German and Swedish passports
can enter the country without visas. Those with Norwegian,
Dutch and Hungarian passports need to get a tourist visa
at the Istanbul airport before passport control. Passport holders
of other nationalities, please check with the closest Turkish
embassy or consulate to you whether you need a visa. Visa fee is between
10-15 US dollars/euros. Only
cash (no credit cards or checks) is accepted by the visa
office, so please make sure you have sufficient cash on you
upon arrival.
Transportation from the airport to the TEACHERS’ accommodation The best and the easiest
way is to take a taxi to the main campus of Boğaziçi University. We
have described the alternate ways on the information sheet
for the students.
(1) Taxi: Quickest
but not the most economical way; 20-30 minutes to Akatlar;
approximately $25.
(2) –Airport bus: Once you get out of the terminal building, look/ask
for a white bus or van that says HAVAŞ on it. HAVAŞ runs
on 2 routes:
(i)
to TAKSİM= This is a bus service that will bring you to the
city center. From
there, you will have to take a taxi or the subway to Levent
to get to the hotel. (see below for details regarding subway).
(ii)
to AKMERKEZ, Etiler= This is a van that will bring you to the mall
very close to Boğaziçi University. From there, you will have
to take a taxi to get to the campus. There is one problem
with this route; the van to Akmerkez, Etiler is not as frequent
as the bus service to Taksim, so you may have to spend a
long time at the airport waiting for the next van.
Information
about van times can be obtained at: Havas
shuttle (3)
Subway: There is a subway station underground at the airport. The
subway will bring you eventually to Taksim, where you will
have to transfer either to another line of the subway or
to get a taxi in order to get to the University. A
detailed map of the subway system of Istanbul is available
at Subways under
Raylı Sistemler Haritası. If you transfer to the
subway from Taksim, you will have to get out at the Levent
stop. From there, you will have to take a taxi to the university.
Transportation from the airport to the STUDENTS’ accommodation
There are three main ways of getting to Otelcilik ve Turizm Lisesi
Uygulama Oteli from the İstanbul Atatürk International Airport.
(1)
Taxi: Quickest
but not the most economical way; 20-30 minutes to Akatlar;
approximately $25.
(ii)
to AKMERKEZ, Etiler= This is a van that will bring you to the mall
almost across the street from the hotel. Once you get to the final
destination, you can walk across the street to the hotel. There
is one problem with this route; the van to Akmerkez, Etiler
is not as frequent as the bus service to Taksim, so you may
have to spend a long time at the airport waiting for the
next van.
Information about van times can be obtained at: Havas
shuttle (3)
Subway: There is a subway station underground at the airport. The
subway will bring you eventually to Taksim, where you will
have to transfer either to another line of the subway or to get a taxi
in order to get to the Hotel. A detailed map of
the subway system of Istanbul is available at Subways under
Raylı Sistemler Haritası.
(i) If you transfer to the subway
from Taksim, you will have to get out at the Levent stop. The hotel
is almost within walking distance from there, but with your suintcases,
it will be very difficult to walk that distance. So you probably will
have to take a taxi to the Hotel.
(ii) Although there is a bus stop for the city buses across
from (and in front of) the Hotel, city buses do not accept
suitcases. Therefore we do not recommend that you take the city
bus from Taksim on your first arrival. You will have plenty of opportunities
to use the bus system on other occasions during your stay
in Istanbul.
